When someone taps your NFC card or scans your QR code with an iPhone, iOS first shows a small preview card at the bottom of their screen (Apple calls this an App Clip) before your full profile opens. This article explains what it shows and why it sometimes looks out of date.
Why does it show my old photo or name?
Apple caches the preview card on each device for up to 72 hours. If you just changed your profile photo, name, or title, the preview can keep showing the old version for up to three days, while your full profile is always current the moment someone taps through. No action is needed: the preview catches up on its own.
Why does it show Wave Connect branding at first?
The very first time someone scans your card, Apple may show a generic Wave Connect preview before it personalizes. After that first load, the preview shows your photo and name (subject to the same 72-hour cache).
Can I change or remove the preview?
The preview image is tied to your profile picture and cannot be removed or customized separately, and the preview itself cannot be turned off: it is how iOS handles NFC and QR links. If you would rather not show a personal photo in the preview, use a logo or neutral image as your profile picture.
Seeing an "App Clip unavailable" error?
Occasionally iOS fails to load the preview. The contact can scan your QR code with their camera instead, which opens your profile directly in the browser. If the error persists on your own card, contact us and we will take a look.
What about Android?
Android does not use App Clips. Tapping or scanning opens your profile page directly.
